Description and Uses

Cassia javanica (Apple blossom cassia) is a tropical tree from Malaysia & Indonesia. It is mainly grown for its timber crops (n/a shelflife), The crop is harvested by total removing. The tree`s wood is called Apple blossom cassia wood and has a density of 400 - 875 kg/m³. After 24 years the tree can be totally removed as it reached its commercial and ecological goal. Cassia javanica has a lifespan of 30 years.


Environmental limitations

The tree is 24 meters tall. It is medium growing and tolerates not less light than full sun. Cassia javanica has a deep root-system and forms symbiotic relations (endo-mycorrhiza). It is able to fix nitrogen with Brucellaceae bacteria. The tree`s flower-morphology is hermaphroditic and is pollinated by .

Cassia javanica thrives in an altitude of 0 to 400 meters above sea-level (tropical). The minimum temperature is 0°C and optimally between 19 - 25°C. The optimal rainfall is 1850 mm/year. Without irrigation the annual rainfall should be between 650 - 2400 mm (L/m²). The optimal soil-pH is between 7.0 - 9.0 in a soil texture of sand.
