Populus ciliata

Populus ciliata - Himalayan poplar

Description and Uses

Populus ciliata (Himalayan poplar) is a temperate tree from Himalaya . It is mainly grown for its fuel crops , which have a long shelf life. The crop is harvested by total removing. It starts flowering after 5 - 10 years. The yield will be n/a, but in its top season there will be a yield of n/a. Other crop types include; timber, ornamental, fodder, fuel, . The {missing data} is used as beverage . The wood is used as " {missing data} " with {missing data} (0 - 0) as its significant phytochemical. There is {missing data} extracted by {missing data} from the tree's {missing data} yielding {missing data} - {missing data} oil. The tree's wood is called {missing data} and has a density of 470 - 490 kg/m³. Regarding firewood production the tree's growing speed is very fast, it's energetic value is 4800 ckal/kg and the wood's drying speed is slow. After 13 years the tree can be totally removed as it reached its commercial and ecological goal. Populus ciliata has a lifespan of 100 years.

Environmental limitations

The tree is 38 meters tall with a crown of 16 meters wide. The tree prefers a planting distance of 600 cm and a row distance of 600 cm. It is very fast growing and partial shade tolerant. Populus ciliata has a shallow root-system and it has symbiotic associations with the fungi (endo and ecto mycorrhiza). It is able to fix nitrogen moderately with "Microbacteriaceae bacteria. The name(s) or string of bacteria include(s) "not applicable ". The tree's flower-morphology is dioecious and is pollinated by wind. Populus ciliata is deciduous in winter and not allelopathic and has no thorns.

Populus ciliata thrives in an altitude of 1700 to 3000 meters above sea-level (temperate). The minimum temperature is -30°C; optimally between 0 - 24°C. The optimal rainfall is 2145 mm/year. Without irrigation the annual rainfall should be between 660 - 2970mm (L/m²). The optimal soil-pH is between 6.0 - 7.0 in a soil texture of loam. To salt it is intolerant to wind {missing data} and to fire intolerant.
