Populus deltoides

Populus deltoides - American poplar

Description and Uses

Populus deltoides (American poplar) is a temperate tree from Canada and Alaska . It is mainly grown for its fuel crops , which have a long shelf life. The crop is harvested by total removing. It starts flowering after 5 - 10 years. The yield will be n/a, but in its top season there will be a yield of n/a. Other crop types include; fodder, fuel, timber, tannin, ornamental, . The {missing data} is used as beverage . The wood is used as " {missing data} " with {missing data} (0 - 0) as its significant phytochemical. There is {missing data} extracted by {missing data} from the tree's {missing data} yielding {missing data} - {missing data} oil. The tree's wood is called {missing data} and has a density of 440 - 460 kg/m³. Regarding firewood production the tree's growing speed is fast, it's energetic value is 4600 ckal/kg and the wood's drying speed is slow. After 20 years the tree can be totally removed as it reached its commercial and ecological goal. Populus deltoides has a lifespan of 120 years.

Environmental limitations

The tree is 35 meters tall with a crown of 15 meters wide. The tree prefers a planting distance of 600 cm and a row distance of 600 cm. It is very fast growing and partial shade tolerant. Populus deltoides has a shallow root-system and it has symbiotic associations with the fungi (endo and ecto mycorrhiza). It is able to fix nitrogen moderately with "Microbacteriaceae bacteria. The name(s) or string of bacteria include(s) "not applicable ". The tree's flower-morphology is dioecious and is pollinated by wind. Populus deltoides is deciduous in winter and not allelopathic and has no thorns.

Populus deltoides thrives in an altitude of 0 to 1000 meters above sea-level (temperate). The minimum temperature is -30°C; optimally between {missing data} - 26°C. The optimal rainfall is 1350 mm/year. Without irrigation the annual rainfall should be between 600 - 1500mm (L/m²). The optimal soil-pH is between 5.0 - 8.0 in a soil texture of sand. To salt it is a bit tolerant to wind {missing data} and to fire intolerant.
